First, I have to say that I wasn t fond of the Court Cassandra match, and found it to be a bit creepy Not only because of the huge age difference, but because of the brother sister connection, AND the fact that Court so obviously had a huge crush on Cassandra s mother, whom it s mentioned before that Cassandra looks exactly like Perhaps die hard fans of this series find the match to be very romantic I just didn t The girl is eighteen and had always had a childish crush on Court, and yet I m First, I have to say that I wasn t fond of the Court Cassandra match, and found it to be a bit creepy Not only because of the huge age difference, but because of the brother sister connection, AND the fact that Court so obviously had a huge crush on Cassandra s mother, whom it s mentioned before that Cassandra looks exactly like Perhaps die hard fans of this series find the match to be very romantic I just didn t The girl is eighteen and had always had a childish crush on Court, and yet I m supposed to assume that no, this isn t just a crush but Love with a capital L, even though this kid is too young and too sheltered to really know what she wants The author tries to get us to think that Cassandra has aged beyond her years, but she just sounded like an immature brat to me most of the time, pouting because she hasn t yet gotten the toy she wanted, and Court s inability to resist her seemed weird given the circumstances I know it s just me, but again, I found the romance odd on several levels. That having been said, I have to wonder if maybe Kasey Michaels felt the same way I did about the union, since I really felt the sex scenes lacking Their first time together happened basically off page, then afterward, Cassandra ponders so this is what it s like to be a woman Insert rolling eye smilie here The other times they re together seemI don t knowglossed over Safe And I had to wonder whether Michaels was feeling a little squicky too about describing sex between a brother and sister, even though they re not brother sister by blood.Because of the Court Cassandra union that I disliked, I honestly didn t want to even pick this last book up, butsince I d stuck with the series this far, I really wanted to finish.I have to say though that the last several booksincluding this onewere a huge disappointment To drag the whole Edmund Beales story arc out over seven books was just too much I was over it halfway through the series I found myself skimming through the last three booksthan reading them, which is a shame By the time I got to this one, I just had the feeling of wanting it to be over This one is a must read if you really feel you need to complete the series, but it s by far not the best of the series

I just love Courtland And though Callie has been a bit grating through the whole series it was great to see them finally act on the feelings they have both had for years That was a great childhood love story Great ending and now Kasy Michaels is going to be starting a new book on the search for the Empress with the modern day Beckets How fun I am not sure if is going to be a series or not But that looks to be a great plot, especially seeing what similarities these Beckets have to the old o I just love Courtland And though Callie has been a bit grating through the whole series it was great to see them finally act on the feelings they have both had for years That was a great childhood love story Great ending and now Kasy Michaels is going to be starting a new book on the search for the Empress with the modern day Beckets How fun I am not sure if is going to be a series or not But that looks to be a great plot, especially seeing what similarities these Beckets have to the old ones

The Romney Marsh series is my favorite of Michaels series thus far, so much so that this is my second time reading Cassandra and Court s romance was sweet and yet being so long in coming it was often done in shorter moments than the others because it was dominated by the long awaited clash between Ainsley Becket and his nemesis Edmund Beales Their confrontation was largely satisfying but to do this story justice it needed a fewpages Michaels has a gift for engaging varied characters th The Romney Marsh series is my favorite of Michaels series thus far, so much so that this is my second time reading Cassandra and Court s romance was sweet and yet being so long in coming it was often done in shorter moments than the others because it was dominated by the long awaited clash between Ainsley Becket and his nemesis Edmund Beales Their confrontation was largely satisfying but to do this story justice it needed a fewpages Michaels has a gift for engaging varied characters that made me eager to know what will happen to them next, including ongoing secondary characters Bringing not only this novel but the series to an end left too much to deal with a romance, Eleanor s dangerous pregnancy, Odette s illness, the culmination of the Ainsley Becket Edmund Beales saga, and a farewell to 17 beloved members of the close knit Becket clan as many of them say longterm goodbyes to each other Loose ends were inevitable, but we are left with too many and a plot hole or two Half the Beckets were absent for too much of the action Despite much build up, the final confrontation between the beloved Odette and her evil sister Loringa happens entirely offstage with Loringa deserting Beales at a critical moment which doesn t quite ring true I did love Alejandro as the hero who proved Beales final downfall literally Too many goodbyes were ignored But the final scene was a wonderful grace note that I wished was a foreshadowing of one final novel Michaels left me wanting muchof these characters. Some final general comments Since Chase and Julia from novel 1 were my favorites of all the Becket couples and since this was a series about a father and his 8 beloved children, the growing cast of grandchildren as the series proceeded got short shrift, but particularly Chase and Julia s younger children We never learn their names or genders That never rang true for this family. And what s with all the green eyed characters At least one of each couple has them, sometimes both Having green eyes myself I know they are just not that common. Finally, will we get a future Becket generation series with the Empress surfacing again I m waiting

Don t read this one until you have read all the other books in the series In fact, read the series in order for best effect This is the finale which ends the series, which I enjoyed This book is better than Reckless Beauty and Return of the Prodigal and as good as if not better than the others in the series. The story has twists and turns It s not just a romance but also an andventure The sex scenes are sensual which makes this book suitable to be enjoyed while in public if you have trouble Don t read this one until you have read all the other books in the series In fact, read the series in order for best effect This is the finale which ends the series, which I enjoyed This book is better than Reckless Beauty and Return of the Prodigal and as good as if not better than the others in the series. The story has twists and turns It s not just a romance but also an andventure The sex scenes are sensual which makes this book suitable to be enjoyed while in public if you have trouble hiding blushes
